“A path all along the wall takes you from Bab el Mateur towards the esplanade located a short distance from the church. The path stops towards the inner lagoon, and its old walls offer poor contrast to the wooden tower found at the entrance to the port.
You can reach the esplanade through various stone stairs consisting of five steps each. It’s planted with young mulberry trees. The area was once covered by the sea. The esplanade is found, in fact, in the old main canal, on whose end was once a small bridge. Evidently, transportation is much easier now, but how much poetry has disappeared for all who knew the old place!”
