“More than sixteen years ago I wrote a small book called: Bizerte and its Future.
What I foresaw as its future, a forgotten city at that time, has turned into reality; at the same time, when I threw the anchor overboard in the Bay of Sebra, I had a strange sensation of inner satisfaction. Instead of the bare dock that I had known, exposed to winds from the east and north, before me was an ideal port in which hundreds of boats could seek protection, as if being in the lagoons of Venice. I stayed there for a time, interested in the modern buildings and retained simultaneously by the charm of the old Moorish city which is slowly disappearing.”
Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria, Bizerte, J. Rothschild, Paris, 1900 (Prague, 1897)
