"The most widely used instrument on Mallorca, like in the rest of Spain, is the guitar (guiterra). A smaller version is called the guitarró, and, seemingly evoking bygone centuries, we find the mandúrria, a type of mandolin. The latter is also found on Mallorca and called by that name. Farmers are particularly fond of bagpipes (xeremies) and flutes (flabiol) which, along with the strident tamborino and noisy castanets (castanyoles), tend to accompany the incisive tones of the bagpipes.

Equally used is the pandero, similar to the Italian tamburell which simply consists of a wooden hoop in whose interior is a type of tambourine membrane and which has a series of slits around the edge out of which two tin-plate jingles stick out, adding their metallic tinkle to the vibration of the membrane.

Lastly, two other instruments are worth mentioning, though difficult to classify them as such. These are the ferrets and ossos. The first are exactly like our iron triangles which we hit with a metal wand.  Ossos consist of a series of long, small bones arranged in parallel thanks to a thread which holds them together by their ends."
