Lo que dice el Arxiduc:

“It’s location could not be any prettier: in front of us with the open, broad sea to the west, only interrupted by two faraway islands, Paxos and Antipaxos, with the nearby rocks of Daskalia. To the north is Corfu, as if lightly exhaled, with the beautiful silhouettes of Lefkimo barely standing out above the sea, beautiful in their drawing. To the south, is the elongated Levkas coast, with Stavrotas above it all and visible from a long distance away and not long ago wanting to become like Ithaca’s Neriton mountain. Standing out like a dagger is Cape Ducato from the southwest sea, surrounded by waves. Behind it is the austere and bare Aya range which, like the smiling hills of a wall, separate it from the rest of the world. So remote, so limited by nature, this could have been a corner where the seed of Hellenic freedom blazed for centuries under the protection of Venice.”

Datos proyecto Nixe III:

In effect, Parga and its surroundings have great landscapes. In terms of Parga’s location, as the Archduke indicated, it is certainly privileged, though it seems a bit slightly removed from the habitual routes of cruise ships sailing along the Ionian Sea. Perhaps this is due to the lack of a port with greater capacity and better protection for boats. Perhaps it’s also due to little information about what Parga can offer as a  tourist destination.

Some have wondered why the Archduke spent so much time in Parga. One of the possible reasons is that, after studying Paxos and Antipaxos, he may have been interested in the contrasts of the then predominately Ottoman culture and population found in Parga.

Others theorize that geopolitical reasons may have been the cause behind the Archduke’s long stay in the city. Regardless, Parga and its surroundings offer a wealth of landscapes which the Archduke certainly fell in love with and made him want to study them in depth.
