Conclusions on landscapes

The Archduke described the Gulf of Corinth as rich in terms of landscapes. Today, the majority of the area is reasonably well preserved and continues to be a pretty place where history and natural beauty intermix.

Also, the combination of sea and mountains along the gulf mean that there are a lot of spots offering marvelous views, even beyond those described by the Archduke or that we have been able to describe on our trip.

There has also been some industrial impact on landscapes, for example, at the entrance to the canal in Aspra Spitia and near Corinth. However, these are in general few, and the powerful natural setting prevails. We also have to take into account that all the areas of Greece we’ve visited are not heavily populated. This would also explain, in part, why the surroundings are better preserved.
