The island’s economy is based especially on tourism and complementary services. Its evolution is typical of that seen in the Mediterranean, an economy dedicated to primary activities shifting towards tertiary ones.
Here, however, we can see a significant increase in new tourists from Eastern Europe, driving to the island directly from their own countries, such as Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania.
We saw relatively few signs of the economic crisis and its impact both in terms of shops and trade as well as on the island’s infrastructures.
