Conclusions on culture and customs

Again, similar to that seen in other areas of the Mediterranean, we see the influence of tourism and the change produced among Levkada’s inhabitants and their customs, progressively losing their ancestral traditions.

Worth noting, at any rate, is the internationally famous folkloric dance festival held every year on the island. In addition, this festival has led to the creation of a museum dedicated to traditional clothing from all around the world. In terms of the clothes worn by local inhabitants, we can still see some older people, especially women in the island’s interior towns, who wear traditional clothing.

In terms of gastronomy, trying the different specialties found in restaurants in the island’s interior is worthwhile. And they’re available at fairly economic prices. We should also highlight the well-known lentils from Englouvi, the “savoro” and the typical oil pastries.
