Leo Wöerl, the publisher of many of Ludwig Salvator’s works, considered him an ‘explorer of the Mediterranean’. Joseph Partsch called him a ‘tireless friend of all Mediterranean islands’. Indeed, the Archduke visited nearly all of the Mediterranean islands, especially the smallest ones. He thought that a small island was like a boat, where you get to know all of the residents and feel very much at home.”
