"Women generally cover their heads with a white veil, open only up front to leave their faces uncovered. It’s called a volant when it’s made of fine material. It’s gathered under the neck and falls forming a rounded edge atop the breast. It’s called a rebosillo when the cloth is more rigid, covers the shoulders like a bell and ends in a point. These items are made out of transparent tulle, coarser muslin and also cotton, linen and more or less fine silk depending on the women’s tastes and their individual possibilities. Girls embroider the edges of this veil themselves, also adding little flowers or stars throughout."
