First, we were generally surprised by the wealth of vegetation on Levkada Island and the variety of plants. Perhaps the island’s few inhabitants explains this situation. Similarly, tourism is very concentrated and limited to certain coastal areas.
We continue to see plane trees in most of the towns in the island interior, normally in the main squares. In the northern mountains, Holm oaks are the predominant tree. In the interior and at higher elevations, we were surprised by the fields dedicated to growing lentils as well as all the flowers there, some of which are endemic. In the center and west, we were also surprised by the variety of trees we found, including oaks, poplars, etc.
Without doubt, this natural wealth represents great potential in terms of tourism, something not seemingly taken advantage of today.
